The ten-part limited series was praised as the best show Netflix viewers have seen in a while
Netflix viewers can now stream ‘one of the saddest’ dramas that fans insist ‘everyone should watch’.
Maid is a limited ten-part series with a star-making performance from Margaret Qualley (The Substance). It tells the heart-wrenching story of single mum Alex, who begins housekeeping to make ends meet after escaping her abusive partner, Sean.
With her little girl in tow, Alex fights for stable housing all while trying to achieve her dream of becoming a writer. Qualley leads the cast, with Jurassic World star Nick Robinson playing her ex-partner.
Behind the scenes, the drama was created by Molly Smith Metzler, drawing inspiration from author Stephanie Land’s memoir. If Metzler’s name sounds familiar, you may recognise her as the famed writer from huge shows, including Shameless, Orange is The New Black and Sirens.

Upon its debut, Maid quickly climbed Netflix’s most-watched charts and went on to receive its accolades during awards season. It bagged three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Writing for Metzler, Directing for filmmaker John Wells, and Lead Actress for Qualley.
The show has recently returned into social media conversation as viewers have been hunting for dramas with ‘satisfying endings’, likely due to frustration surrounding the lacklustre Stranger Things finale.
