Obscure Racing Game Rockets in Price on the Back of PS5 Jailbreak Hopes 1 Image: Push Square

Limited Run Games’ niche PS4 retail release of Star Wars Racer Revenge has rocketed in value, after it emerged disc-based copies of the game could be used to jailbreak the PS5.

Sony’s new-gen console can obviously run PS4 discs through backwards compatibility, and while the LucasArts racer – originally released for the PS2 – can be purchased through the PS Store, there’s value in owning a disc copy because it won’t automatically be patched.

Apparently, code can be injected into the game as a way of jailbreaking PS5 firmware update 12.0 – until, of course, Sony gets wind of all this and tries to stop hobbyist coders in their tracks.

Right now, copies of the game are fetching up to $400 on eBay, and that number could yet soar higher given the relatively niche nature of this release. Apparently, only 8,500 copies were ever printed, so it’s no real surprise to see demand surge.

Do you own a copy of this game? Are you tempted to flog it while demand remains high? Let us know in the comments section below.
