Dave Allen has his next fight lined up, and it could lead to a huge all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Allen is a real favourite amongst fans for his straight-talking persona, but also his willingness to fight anyone. He has never challenged for a world title or even won a British strap, but he has faced an impressive list of names including Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte, David Price and Frazer Clarke, all of whom have beat him.

After taking time away and rebuilding on low-key small hall shows, most recently, the 33-year-old from Doncaster has knocked out young prospect Johnny Fisher in a rematch following a controversial draw in the first fight in December 2024. In the past, he has stopped Nick Webb and Lucas Browne in impressive fashion.

It was reported this week that next up, he takes on 36-year-old Arslanbek Makhmudov, set to be announced officially today, who has ended 19 of his 20 wins by KO and lost just twice, once to Agit Kabayel and once to Guido Vianello.

Speaking to IFL TV, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn explained how Allen could get a shot at former two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua with a win next time out.

“I’ve given him a list of fighters. He’s chose the biggest puncher and the most dangerous one of the whole list. And he goes, if I beat him what will happen? And I said honestly, if you beat this guy you will land Parker, ‘AJ’, Wilder. You will get a massive fight. Probably a seven figure fight if you win this fight. And he goes, ‘I’m in.”’

Allen and 6′ 5″ Makhmudov are set to fight in October in Sheffield and a win for Allen would put him in prime position for a big financial reward in his next contest, with Joshua seemingly now an option.

‘AJ’ hasn’t fought since a defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, and while Hearn may be talking up a potential Allen fight, it is likely that Joshua will want to target much bigger names upon his return.
