Newcastle United look likely to have a busy end to the summer transfer window based on some of the latest reports.
When it comes to new signings, RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park. However, it seems that Newcastle also face competition from Manchester United for his signature.
There is also a chance that some players may leave Newcastle before the September 1 deadline. Alexander Isak’s future is still the subject of speculation, with Liverpool known to have an interest in signing the Sweden international.
Here, Chronicle Live have taken a look at some of the latest Newcastle transfer news and gossip that has generated headlines over the last 24 hours.
Atalanta defender ‘wanted’
Newcastle are again being linked with a move for Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that the Magpies retain an interest in signing the Serie A centre-back this summer. However, it has been claimed that Atalanta have no desire to see Scalvini leave the club.
The report claims that Newcastle would need to make an “unmarketable offer” in order to have a chance of signing Scalvini.
Recent reports suggested that the Serie A side had slapped a £52m price tag on the youngster’s head – a lot of money for someone who has suffered considerable injuries over the last two seasons.
Chronicle Live says: “Newcastle are continuing to be linked with Scalvini, having scouted him on many occasions, including in the last few days when Atalanta played in a friendly against their U23s. Scalvini is widely regarded as one of the most talented defensive prospects in Europe, but United know they face a tough battle to convince Atalanta to sell.”
Goalkeeper move needed
Newcastle will look to complete the signing of Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale over the next 24 hours after the England man flew into Tyneside yesterday for a medical.
There had been reports that the Magpies had an interest in signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, but Madrid are said to have no desire to let the goalkeeper leave the club this summer. And Eddie Howe, having worked with Ramsdale before, is keen to link up with his former player.
Ramsdale’s arrival will mean Newcastle have seven senior goalkeepers on their books and will see either Martin Dubravka or Odysseas Vlachodimos leave the club, either on loan or permanently.
Chronicle Live says: “Aaron Ramsdale is a perfect fit for Eddie Howe’s side. He knows the manager, will provide cover and competition for Nick Pope and with a loan fee initially, it means Newcastle aren’t committed to a huge expense when they have other areas of the team to focus on. Newcastle’s next move, however, will be to find a home for Dubravka or Vlachodimos.”
