Leeds Rhinos have dropped a major selection hint ahead of one of their upcoming friendlies against Super League opposition.
The Rhinos are one of the only Super League sides to have already been in action this pre-season with Brad Arthur’s side taking on Wakefield Trinity on Boxing Day.
That was a game that the Rhinos won and it was one where Arthur wasn’t actually in charge and that’s set to be the case once again for the club’s upcoming clash with Castleford Tigers.
Former Rhinos man Brad Singleton, who played for Castleford, is having his testimonial match against Leeds, with whom he won two Grand Finals, a Challenge Cup and a League Leaders’ Shield.
Leeds will travel to face Castleford on Sunday, 18th January in their second game of pre-season and it’s been confirmed that assistant coach Chev Walker will coach a side that likely won’t feature too many of the Rhinos star players.
Leeds Rhinos confirm Castleford Tigers clash
Castleford announced the clash with Leeds back in December but the Rhinos have now also confirmed it, sharing details on their club website about how fans can buy tickets.
Within that confirmation was a major hint as to which players will feature with the club confirming that the match against the Tigers won’t serve as their ‘main pre-season game’, with that instead coming the week after when they host Bradford Bulls in Cam Smith’s testimonial match.
The Headingley club said: “The Rhinos main pre-season game will be on Saturday 24th January when Leeds take on Bradford in Cameron Smith’s Testimonial game at AMT Headingley. However, this fixture against Castleford will give an opportunity for other players to gain game time. Chev Walker will coach the team against the Tigers.”
That means we could see more of the club’s young talents such as George Brown, one of those who shone on Boxing Day in the win over Wakefield.
Leeds won that game 18-10 with tries from Alfie Edgell, Riley Lumb and the aforementioned Brown.
