Coronation Street fans have been left devastated for Carla Connor in the aftermath of Corriedale. The world’s longest-running TV soap collided with Emmerdale on Monday night for a special crossover event in which there was a massive car crash on the way back from Debbie Webster’s wedding, which resulted in the death of kindly vicar Billy Mayhew.
Also on the road was Underworld factory boss Carla, in the passenger seat with DC Kit Green after she was rescued from being locked up in a shipping container by Becky Swain, the wife of her girlfriend Lisa who came back from the dead following a corrupt police cover up. As the Manchester-based serial resumed on Tuesday night, things were looking up for Carla as a doctor confirmed to her that there she had sustained “no long-term damage” in the accident.
But as Carla headed back to number six to try to get back to normal, it was immediately apparent that was going to be easier said than done. Fans will know that over Christmas, Becky who was hellbent on taking Lisa and their daughter Betsy away with them before colliding with Emmerdale’s John Sugden on the dark country road, had kept Carla prisoner in her flat and constantly taunted her about having slept with Lisa behind her back.

Desperate for answers, Carla returned home and promptly asked Lisa if it was true. She began: “There’s something that she said to me a few times, actually, and I just need to check. She said that you guys slept together.” Lisa was unable to answer, and gave a very telling look which was more than enough for Carla to learn the truth.
Walking towards the door, Carla said: “I can’t. It’s too much. This is too much. Too much has happened. You slept with her! You were gonna run away with her and start a new life with her, what was that about?” Lisa pleaded that she was sorry but Carla shot back: “I know you are. But it happened. I can’t. I can’t,” and with that, she walked out of the house.
As soon as the episode aired, die-hard fans of Coronation Street realised that she learned the truth about Becky and Lisa on her 51st birthday, even though this was not mentioned at all on screen. One fan wrote: “So if Corriedale was set on Jan 2nd, we’ve just witnessed Carla find out Lisa & Becky slept together on her birthday?” and another said: “Yes ,Happy Birthday to Carla , who hasn’t had a chance to enjoy her birthday for a 2nd year in a row, due to circumstances outside her control. I’m just hoping in this case it’s third time lucky for her the next time.”

Another joked before the episode was broadcast: “Happy birthday to Queen C even tho she has to spend it currently in a shipping container.” Whilst in the car, Lisa discovered what Becky has been up to and an argument began, causing Becky to crash her car into another. Carla, who has been played by Alison King since 2006, was able to get Betsy and Becky out of the car, but Lisa was stuck.
After everyone at the crash came together to move the car Lisa was stuck in away from the flames coming from a minivan, and paramedics were able to get the copper into an ambulance.
Becky tried to flee again but Carla stopped her. The villain was determined to leave until Lisa called out for her. Becky insisted she’s got to go, but Lisa asked for a goodbye, seemingly sad to see her leave.
Becky leaned over Lisa and tried to kiss her, telling her she loves her. But as she did so, Lisa snapped handcuffs around her wrist and said: “Becky Swain, I am arresting you for theft, GBH…” Carla chimed in as she hugged Betsy with: “And kidnapping!”
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
