A Scot murdered on The Traitors has revealed who he thinks is this season’s secret villain.

Motherwell-born Ben, a 66-year-old Royal Navy veteran, said being selected for the cult show was the best experience of his life.

And he identified two fellow contestants he believes could be the show’s Secret Traitor following his shock exit.

Viewers have been left in suspense after a new twist in this year’s series with a Secret Traitor selected by host Claudia Winkleman.

The identity of the mystery baddie has not been revealed – until tonight.

Speaking to the Daily Record ahead of tonight’s show, when the Secret Traitor will be unmasked, Ben said: “It could be anybody but I’ve got my suspicions. I was looking at Ross but I’ve got this thing about Fiona as well.

“When it got to Saturday night’s show I was even starting to think ‘am I the Secret Traitor?’ because I was getting so confused.”

The married dad-of-two was murdered during Saturday night’s instalment of the hit BBC series – a move fans branded “unforgivable”.

Ben said while his fellow contestants made a mistake in picking him, he doesn’t regret his strategy.

He said: “To think I’ve been part of the biggest show in British TV, if not the world, and I’ve just been pure lucky to be one of the 22 people that’s been picked – I’m so proud of that.

“Out of four seasons now, 91 people have been though and I’m part of that little group.

“I’ve no idea how it happened. I’m retired so I was diddling about reading my paper every day and then suddenly I was pushing chariots up hills and rowing boats in rivers, thinking ‘what’s going on here?’ But it was the best experience I’ve ever had in my life.”

The reality show has made its much-anticipated return for series four, with presenter Claudia Winkleman welcoming 22 new contestants divided into Faithfuls and Traitors, all vying for a substantial cash prize.

The first episode kicked off with a bang, with the host choosing her three baddies for the upcoming series, as Stephen, 32, Hugo, 51, and Rachel, 42, were chosen to begin scheming and murdering.

For this series, the producers have introduced a huge twist, unveiling that a Secret Traitor has been chosen whose identity remains a mystery for us, the viewers, the three normal traitors and the innocent faithful.

As players sat down for breakfast in Saturday’s show, they quickly discovered that Ben had been chosen by the Traitors to leave Ardross Castle, leaving players devastated.

His departure followed the exit of Netty, the first Traitor to be murdered.

The first player banished at the round table was Judy.

Ben, who now lives in Hampshire, said he loved every minute of his return to Scotland for filming in Inverness.

He said: “I was born and raised in Motherwell and left when I was a young boy and joined the forces in the senior service.

“I’ve been away for most of the time but was posted up to Scotland to Rosyth and Faslane, so I have lived up there.

“I’ve got family in the east coast and my brother still lives in Motherwell but I’d never been up to Inverness before. When we got to the castle the scenery just blew me away.”

Since leaving the show, Ben has been mulling over his theories over why he was murdered.

He said: “I played the doddery old guy who didn’t know what was going on, but I was paying attention to everything. I was gathering my information and thought ‘right, I’ll plant a few seeds’ which was maybe my downfall. Or maybe I was too clever for the Traitors.

“If they had thought it through, and I think Stephen has now, they should have gone for someone else because they just brought everything onto themselves by murdering me. People then began to look at who was in the room.

“I was onto Hugo straight away.”

Ben said he had also suspected fellow Scot Stephen, but quickly brushed it off as “paranoia”.

He tipped the 32-year-old Cyber Security Consultant, originally from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, as a potential winner.

Ben said: “Stephen’s a wonderful guy and what a fantastic dresser he is. He’s a really nice, down to earth guy and will probably do well.

“I love everything about The Traitors. I’m a real superfan and being on it was like walking into your TV.

“It was an honour and I can’t wait to watch the next episode.”

The Traitors returns tonight (WED) at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
