Letting summer signing Arnaud Kalimuendo go is a “very good deal” for Nottingham Forest, according to head coach Sean Dyche.

The forward, 23, is expected to complete a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt – potentially as soon as today – just a matter of months after signing for the Reds. Reports from Germany have suggested Forest will receive a €1.5 million (£1.3m) loan fee, while a €27m (£23m) option to buy will be included in the deal.

Kalimuendo’s impending exit will leave Dyche short of options up top, given Chris Wood is side-lined and there’s a question mark over Taiwo Awoniyi’s future. But the Reds boss has made clear the club are working on making some signings of their own.

Asked about Kalimuendo’s anticipated departure, Dyche said: “When I got here, the trading model and the nature of the club was made clear. We’re waiting on that situation. We’re obviously into other situations, I would hope that’s apparent.

“I have made it clear and the owner (Evangelos Marinakis) has made it clear to me he will support the situation. We still need the right players at the right time, and that was a deal the club has done which they felt the next deal with him is a very good one for the club, so they are looking at that now.”

Dyche has repeatedly said he i expecting a relatively slow transfer window Trentside. Forest did a lot of business in the summer when they spent upwards of £180million on 13 signings.

Recruiting a forward, though, has moved to the top of the agenda following news of Wood’s extended spell out of action due to knee surgery. Dyche is keen to make sure any addition is the right one, however.

“You can be as optimistic as you want, but until the pen is on the paper and it is done then you never know,” he said of potential replacements for Kalimuendo. “But there is certainly ongoing conversations about the situations, that’s for sure.

“The club have been very open with me and my staff. I don’t know how it’s been previously but they have spoken to us about what we think. We have got lots of games in the Premier League under our belts – not just me but my staff, as well.

“They have been very open on the scouting side. We’ve had meetings with the scouting units and the analysis units to talk about players, and that has been ongoing for the last couple of months.”
