Cardiff Rugby coach Corniel van Zyl has provided an injury update as the Blue & Blacks turn attention to the EPCR Challenge Cup.
The Blue & Blacks take on Racing 92 in Round Three of the competition, at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday.
Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture, Van Zyl revealed Taulupe Faletau has been sidelined by a calf injury and provided updates on Ed Byrne, Theo Cabango, Corey Domachowski, Iwan Stephens and Teddy Williams.
Taulupe Faletau – calf.
“Unfortunately, he picked up another knock — a destabilisation injury in the Ospreys game. It’s his calf. We’re not exactly sure how long he’ll be out, but it will be a few weeks.
“He might miss the start (of the Six Nations), but I’m confident he’ll be available at some point during the tournament.”
Theo Cabango – hamstring
“He’s progressing well in his rehab. There have been a few setbacks, but everything is going according to plan at the moment. There’s no exact return date yet, but all signs are positive.
“It’s been a tough period for him personally, so it’s about patience and getting him back on the pitch at the right time.”
Iwan Stephens – knee
“We were very pleased with his comeback (against Stade Francais). He’s played for the RFC as well, which helped manage his load. He’s been training consistently and progressing well. His attention to detail is at the level we expect, so everything there is positive.”
Corey Domachowski – foot
“He was meant to play for RFC twice, but both games were cancelled. He’s now fully training and has been available for selection over the last couple of weeks.”
Teddy Williams – foot
“He’s not back on the pitch yet, but we’re confident he’ll play this season. The initial timeline was around Six Nations time to start running and reintegrating, but we’ll make the final call with the medical team. He’s working hard and keen to return.
Ed Byrne – hamstring
Ed Byrne had a small setback after playing for RFC just before the New Year.
