Coronation Street‘s Mollie Gallagher has shared a transformation in the New Year, with one co-star calling it “unreal”. Taking to social media, the Nina Lucas actor unveiled a bold new look.

In a post on Instagram, Gallagher shared a selfie as she showed off her new black-coloured hairstyle, writing in the caption: “New year old me xoxo 🖤 Hair colour and extensions by the best hair transformer.”

The post was met with several positive messages in the comment section, with co-star Elle Mulvaney – who portrays Amy Barlow on the long-running ITV soap – writing that Gallagher looked “unreal”.

Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman, said that she was “obsessed” with her co-star’s bold new look, while Abi Webster actor Sally Carman called Gallagher a “beautiful girl”.

“❤️ although light hair suits you, you look amazing with it black 🔥,” commented one follower, while another echoed this sentiment as they wrote: “Loved both colours on you, but dark always best 🖤”

While Gallagher has a new style, the soap itself has a new look in the New Year following changes to its schedule this week, with the series now airing five 30-minute instalments per week instead of three hour-long episodes.

The changes also affected fellow ITV soap Emmerdale, with the two series crossing over on Monday (5 January) for Corriedale, a one-off instalment which saw characters from both soaps engage in a dramatic storyline.

Furthermore, there has also been an increase in special episodes dedicated to certain storylines, with Corrie producer Kate Brooks explaining: “We do have episodes that feel special and different.

“They break the usual formula of soap and I think they’re a really interesting way of telling the story. We have a lot of our ‘traditional format’ episodes to appease the more traditional viewers.

“When the story affords it or lends itself to taking a more abstract and slightly less conventional approach, we embrace it. We have a great team around us who work really hard to ensure that, whilst the episode might feel different, it still feels very story-driven.”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
