The service at Bembridge Close, now run by Milestones Trust, was registered under its new provider on November 4, 2024.

As a result of the change of ownership, it will have to undergo a new inspection.

The last CQC report, drawn from the previous provider’s April 2019 inspection and published on May 16, 2019, covers five key areas: safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness, and leadership.

At the time of the last inspection, Bembridge House was fully occupied, supporting up to eight adults.

Inspectors found the service safe, with robust systems in place for safeguarding and risk assessment.

Staff had clear procedures to report concerns.

One staff member said: “I would record the concern and report it to my manager.”

Relatives expressed confidence in the service, with one noting: “They [staff] don’t hide anything from us.”

Medicines were managed safely, with the required training given to staff.

The home environment, including bedrooms and communal areas, was well maintained and kept clean.

Relatives reported: “I have never found the home dirty.”

Fire safety was prioritised, with regular drills involving both staff and residents.

The report highlighted personalised care, with staff focusing on the individuality of each resident.

Support plans reflected people’s needs, and staff adapted communication to meet those needs.

One healthcare professional said: “The team adapt their communication to meet the individual needs of the client.

“The team use short, simple phrases and key words when communicating with client’s who are able to understand simple verbal communication.”

Staff received thorough induction and ongoing training, including in specialised areas such as epilepsy and dementia, and were subject to recruitment checks.

Relatives and professionals gave favourable feedback.

A health care professional said: “The staff team and manager keep me informed with updates on a regular basis, and have made timely referrals to our service to ensure that the residents receive the appropriate support/assessment.”

Person-centred care was a theme throughout, with staff striving to promote independence and choice.

Activities and support were adapted to preferences and diverse needs, including dietary requirements and accessible design features like a sensory room and large garden.

Leadership was found to be effective and open.

One staff member said: “This is the best place I have ever worked in.”

Relatives felt able to approach management, as one said: “I feel the service is well run.”

The CQC will re-inspect Bembridge House under its new provider to ensure continued standards.

Relatives and community members can give feedback via the CQC website, which may help guide future inspections.
