Newcastle United will demand a big asking price if Aston Villa come calling for William Osula in the January window.

Villa have been linked with the Denmark Under-21 international, who could still leave in the January trading period with intermediaries checking out possible destinations for the forward this month. Osula has not played since autumn and is not back from an ankle problem until the end of the month.

Toon head coach Eddie Howe has already warned off the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Bayer Leverkusen, who want the Danish star on loan. But should Villa get around the table with an actual bid it would cost a fee north of £21m according to sources on the agent circuit.

Howe has already made his stance clear on Osula leaving St James’ Park this month. The head coach has just Yoane Wissa, Nick Woltemade, and youngster Sean Neave available as frontmen.

He said: “No, there’s no expectation of me thinking Will will leave. I think the only way that we would consider that would be for his development and growth in terms of benefiting his career to play, but always with a view to him coming back to us.

“He’s injured at the moment. I think the main priority for Will is just to focus on getting fit. I don’t think he’s close, but I think he’s improving. Hopefully, we’ll see him towards the end of the month.

“Big for us to get him back fit. Big for him because I know he’s been hugely frustrated by this injury, when he had a lot of opportunities to play.”

Osula looked bright at the start of the season, as he looked to take his opportunity in the absence of the injured Wissa and with Woltemade still getting to grips with the Premier League.

He scored off the bench against Liverpool, helped change the game against Fulham and also played well when starting against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup.

But his chances could well be limited going into the second half of the season, hence movement from his agent to see what other opportunities are out there for him.

Newcastle paid £10m to Sheff United for his services and would be looking to double their money for the striker.
