A businesswoman has spoken of the shocking moment a car smashed into her beauty salon.

Ndeye Sarr, 50, was closing her shop for the day when a car ploughed into the front of her premises, the Dixa Hair and Beauty salon on Hyde Road in Gorton.

The incident happened at about 6pm on Thursday (January 8). She went to hospital for to be checked over but miraculously avoided serious injury.

Ms Sarr said a female member of her staff was also lucky to avoid serious injury, as she had been waiting for her bus outside prior to the crash.

But Ms Sarr had told her to come inside to avoid the cold.

“I close sometime around six,” Ms Sarr told the Manchester Evening News.

“One of my workers was waiting for her bus. I told her to wait inside to see the bus, because it was cold outside.

She told how she suddenly heard a ‘big massive noise’. She said: “I closed my eyes after I saw lots of glass coming, I covered my eyes with my hands. Lots of glass went on me and her as well.

“I have little scratches in my hands. We were in A&E until 1.30am in the morning. It was bleeding.

“I didn’t feel the pain, I was in shock at the time. I just noticed the blood was coming out of my hand. They checked and didn’t see any glass inside.

“The police were asking me [questions] but I couldn’t even speak because the thing was so fast, and I was in shock.”

Ms Sarr, who has run the salon for the past six years, says she still has some pain but that she has re-opened the salon.

She said: “I have a headache, I’m taking painkillers. I’m feeling a little bit tired, I think it’s the stress. The customers are good, they are always calling me and checking.”

She fears it will cost her a lot of money to return the salon to how it was before. Hyde Road was shut for hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police said a 21-year-old man had been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and driving without a licence.
