Earlier on Monday, Il Resto del Carlino reported Bologna’s interest in Everton defender Nathan Paterson.
This came right after the Toffees were said to be evaluating a move for Emil Holm, who has assisted four times in nine Serie A games this season. Everton have been searching for an addition at right-back this month, and Holm has appeared as one of the more prominent names.
Given the Paterson interest, the Swede could have essentially replaced his replacement at Everton. Now, more details of the deal are emerging from Monday’s edition of Corriere di Bologna.
The newspaper claim the Toffees have attempted to sign 25-year-old Holm via a structured deal. During talks with Bologna, they’ve offered the Italian club a chance to sign Paterson in a cash plus swap deal.
It would be David Moyes’ side adding the cash element to the transfer.
The amount on offer from Everton is unknown but the attempt has already been rejected by Bologna. This is largely because they have no intention of letting their right-back leave this month. Seemingly, Paterson’s inclusion hasn’t tempted them enough.
Everton transfer chances not over
Nadir Zortea has struggled for form since his arrival at Bologna in the summer. He was initially expected to be a reliable deputy but his failures have turned Holm into a more important player for the club.
This shouldn’t extinguish David Moyes’ side’s hopes, as Bologna will have a meeting over transfers on Monday (today). This will prove important in their decisions over the futures of several players, and Holm is on the agenda.
Should Bologna want incomings then they’ll require funds for that. One option had been selling Jhon Lucumi. Sunderland were very keen in the summer, and Manchester City have made an approach this month due to their injuries.
However, Lucumi himself picked up an injury in his last match so that option is off the table. Therefore, Everton may have more chance with Holm, although they need a better offer.
