The National Highways shared details about the incident that happened on Wednesday morning.
It said in a statement: “At around 05:20 this morning Surrey Fire & Rescue Service dispatched units to a lorry fire on the M3 eastbound near Farnborough, National Highways Traffic Officers arrived shortly after to provide support in the form of traffic management.
“Traffic was initially held whilst firefighters worked to tackle the fire, with the blaze initially being contained within the trailer. Plans were being made to release traffic with lane closures in place when the fire re-ignited, at this point a decision was made to install a full closure.
“At 07:20 Road Policing Units from Surrey Police arrived at scene to assist with the response and release of traffic caught within the closure. Plans are being made to turn and release traffic via J4.”
