Jimmy Kimmel has conceded that he would be happy to give President Donald Trump an Emmy personally, on the condition that he withdraws ICE from Minneapolis.
On January 15th, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado gifted Trump her Nobel Peace Prize in a political move to curry favour with the president.
Seemingly inspired by the move, Kimmel made the offer during his monologue on the January 15th episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“Rarely does a president yank a Nobel Prize off of someone’s neck,” Kimmel said in his monologue.
Kimmel continued, “He’s back in the Oval Office sucking on it like a pacifier right now. Look at how happy he is. Have you ever seen anyone happier than that for winning this prize? He didn’t even win.”
Awarding the President, Kimmel suggested, was the only way to get Trump to “do anything” at all.
This led Kimmel to an offer Trump may in fact take up: “Mr President, I have an offer I think you’re going to find difficult to refuse.”
Referencing the dire political situation in Minnesota, Kimmel stated: “If you — and only if you agreed to pull ICE out of Minneapolis and put them back at the borders where they belong — I am prepared to offer you one of the following trophies that I have been honoured with over the years.”
Kimmel’s comments come after Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot by an ICE official, Jonathan Ross, on January 7th in Minnesota. As a result, huge protests against ICE have sparked up across the United States.
Kimmel wasn’t picky which award Trump could take off of him: “First off, the Daytime Emmy I won for Best Game Show host in 1999. That could be yours. Or perhaps you would prefer my Clio Award for my work selling crap to people? Or my Webby award — the most prestigious award the internet can give.”
Kimmel turned the conversation back to the President: “The choice is yours. I will personally deliver any, or even all of these, to the Oval Office in exchange for leaving the people of Minneapolis alone.”
