Liam Rosenior is currently preparing for his first Premier League game in charge as Chelsea manager against high-flying Brentford.

Despite Rosenior’s lack of experience at the top level, the expectations have not been lowered by the club. Qualifying for Champions League football is still seen as the minimum requirement of the 2025/26 season.

It has been a mostly positive start to life at Stamford Bridge for the Englishman, with Rosenior making an effort to speak to players with a lack of confidence.

There has also been praise sent his way for his ability to deal with the pressures from the media. Questions that come to a Chelsea manager are harder than in most jobs in football.

However, not everyone believes his strong persona in interviews and with journalists is a positive thing.

Micah Richards has warned Rosenior to be careful to not say too much when asked questions by the media, leaning on the example of Ruben Amorim’s recent failed stint at Manchester United.

He said to The Rest is Football: “I think he’s buying too much into the media with his interviews. I think he’s saying a little bit too much. And I feel like he needs to be careful.

“I think he’s saying all the right things. I think he’s articulate, but I think he’s overexplaining himself, which then leaves always a question for the media when it comes to games.

“I think Amorim did similar. He was really good in interviews, almost give you too much to go out, and then you’re always thinking, hanging on every word and thinking, ‘Oh, he said that last time. Well, I’ll see how they do.’

“He said something like he knows he’s a good manager, which we all think he’s a good manager, you know, up and coming manager. But these are all things that could come against you when things are not going well.

“So I feel like he knows how to work it, but I just, I think he’s been quite naive when it comes to it.”

Despite the January transfer window being halfway done already, Chelsea are finally prepared to enter the market.

The Blues are looking at a new centre-back to bolster Rosenior’s chances of success in his new job, although this will likely not go down too well with Enzo Maresca.

The Italian flagged the need to sign a new defender after Levi Colwill suffered a serious injury before the season began.

However, he was not helped out in the market, and Chelsea cannot afford to make that mistake again.
