Since the tragic events of June 4 last year when a trophy celebration turned into a stampede, killing 11 people, there have been no matches played at the venue due to security reasons. The recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy games too weren’t allotted to the venue, sending most fixtures – including the final – to the BCCI Centre of Excellence on the outskirts of the city. Expectedly, Bengaluru did not host any fixtures in last year’s Women’s World Cup and is not among the venues for matches in the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup.
