Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle to sign Crystal Palace defender, and captain, Marc Guehi. Guehi had been garnering interest from other clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich but Pep Guardiola’s side will win the race for the centre-back.

Oliver Glasner confirmed as much in a press conference on Friday where he also announced his decision to leave Palace at the end of the season. Some negotiations over Guehi’s move are still taking place with the Eagles wanting an asking price of £35-£40m for the defender despite him being out of contract at the end of the season.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen before the January transfer window closes. In midfield they have lined up Carlos Baleba, Marcos Llorente and Elliot Anderson as targets – Man City are also said to be interested in Anderson – while Nottingham Forest defender Murillo is being looked at to reinforce the defence. The club have alos rejected several offers for defender Harry Maguire whose contract is expiring.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have reportedly made a huge bid for Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde, and are also reportedly interested in Lucas Paqueta. Reports from Brazil say the West Ham midfielder prefers to return to his home country but a switch to another European club hasn’t been ruled out.

January transfer window latest updatesSheffield Wednesday swoop for Emile Heskey’s son

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Manchester City midfielder Jaden Heskey on loan until the end of the season.

Heskey, the son of former Leicester, Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey, made his senior debut for City earlier this season in their 2-0 win at Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.

Wednesday said: “The Owls have signed attacking midfielder Jaden Heskey on a half-season loan from Premier League giants Manchester City. The 20-year-old will add pace and power to Henrik Pedersen’s squad for the remainder of the campaign.”

Jaden Heskey has progressed through City’s academy alongside younger brother Reigan Heskey, who also made his senior bow in the victory against the Terriers in September.

Moyes insists he has club’s backing in transfer market

Everton manager David Moyes has every confidence the club will back him in the transfer market if he can find the right players but admitted it would not be to the tune of £60m.

Moyes has consistently played down expectations in terms of January arrivals, especially with Senegal duo Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye expected back next week after Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final, and Jarrad Branthwaite and Seamus Coleman stepping up their rehabilitation.

But that does not mean there are not some funds available if he can find some options.

“All managers are hoping to get bigger numbers (for their budget) but I think the club has outlined that what we spent in the summer, that was the main part,” said Moyes ahead of Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa.

“It’s not me saying it, the CEO is saying it as well: we don’t expect to be doing too much business.

“But genuinely if I can get a couple of new players in the club will certainly back me, I have no doubt about that. Absolutely they will, they have been really good.

“Maybe they can’t back me on a £60m or £70m signing but they will back me on what they think will be the right numbers if we think we can come up with the players required.”

Moyes also said there was “zero truth” in reports the club had rejected a bid for Ndiaye.

Hurzeler provides update on Ferguson loan

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler expects on-loan striker Evan Ferguson, 21, to remain with Roma for the remainder of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international has scored five goals in 21 appearances for the Serie A side.

“The window is open so everything can happen but at the moment that’s the case, yes,” replied Hurzeler when asked if Ferguson, who has been linked with a potential temporary switch elsewhere, will stay in the Italian capital.

“We all agree that he has the potential to help us as a club, but now it’s about him. He has to make sure that when he comes back he is ready to immediately have an impact on us.”

Ward-Prowse and Wilson should ‘pursue their careers’

Nuno Espirito Santo has told West Ham outcasts James Ward-Prowse and Callum Wilson to “go and pursue their careers”.

Former England midfielder Ward-Prowse has been frozen out by Nuno since he replaced Graham Potter as head coach in September.

Striker Wilson has not featured in Nuno’s last two squads and is understood to be in the process of cancelling his contract amid links with Celtic and Everton.

“We are working on both ins and outs,” said Nuno. “I feel that we need to rebalance our squad, so that means bringing more options to some positions, and finding solutions for the players who are not having so many minutes to go and pursue their careers.

“We are working very hard as a club to find the right players, in a very tricky transfer window. So, we have to make good decisions, and we cannot afford to make mistakes.”

Dyche eyes more firepower up front

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche is trying to bring a striker to the club during the current transfer window.

Forest only have Brazilian Igor Jesus available to them with Chris Wood out following knee surgery and Arnaud Kalimuendo allowed to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.

Dyche said ahead of Saturday’s visit of leaders Arsenal: “The obvious one is the striker area because we are a bit short there. The club felt it was a really good deal for Kalimuendo to go out.

“We are looking at various options to bring in. That’s the obvious one that jumps off the page.

“You’ve got to be ready for the shifting sands of the market. It’s an unusual market, or a slightly different market, in the January window than it is in the summer.

“We’ve got to be proactive where we can be and reactive if things change. I think the club are well aware of that.

“I’ve had a good meeting from the owner all the way through the structure about what we think we’ve got and what we think we need.

“It’s aligning the right people and getting the deals done, which is often the hardest part – the actual process of getting the deal done and getting the player here.”

Zinchenko future in doubt

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche is remaining coy regarding the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukraine international is on a season-long loan from Arsenal but he has struggled for game time at the City Ground due to injury and a high turnover in managers.

Dyche said: “We spoke to the player, made it clear in his situation, he is aware of that so we will see what happens.

“We are being open with him, he is a thorough professional, he has been and I am sure he will be going forward, whatever happens.”

‘Zero chance’ Fulham sell Wilson this window

Fulham boss Marco Silva maintains there is “zero chance” of Wales forward Harry Wilson being allowed to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Wilson has continued to impress for the Cottagers, with goals in each of his last three appearances against Liverpool, Chelsea and in the FA Cup win over Middlesbrough.

The 28-year-old, signed from Liverpool in the summer of 2021, is out of contract at the end of the season, fueling speculation he could be on the move this month.

Silva, though, stressed Wilson remained integral to the club’s plans moving forward.

“To clarify, because I said that we have to enjoy him for one month, two months, or maybe another one or two years if we can renew with him, but (there is) completely zero chance of him leaving (in January),” Silva told a press conference.

“Not because we have an offer – I know there is starting to be some noise about the possibility of him leaving in this window – no chance, zero chance.”

Parker plays down Ekdal rumours

Reports have linked Burnley defender Hjalmar Ekdal with a move to Nice but Scott Parker has played down that speculation.

“At this present moment in time, Ekdal’s been in and around things,” he said.

“There may be an option there, but at this present moment in time, that’s not something that we’re really active on, but again, we’ll see how things go.”

Are Leeds ready to be greedy?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s summer signing has proved a masterstroke for Leeds, with the former Everton striker boasting eight goals in his last nine Premier League games.

But Farke is not scared to bring in another centre-forward to provide competition and cover for the Englishman, saying: “I’m always greedy, I’m never scared of (bringing in) quality.

“You need competition. On the other hand, you have to make sure that the group is not too big and the players who are there also feel trusted and backed.”
