Celtic are one of the sides showing an interest in signing WSG Tirol centre-back Jamie Lawrence, whose contract expires in June, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

As Celtic desperately try and catch up with Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, the Glasgow giants appear to be backing Martin O’Neill in the January transfer market. So far, the only confirmed addition through the door is right-back Julian Araujo, who has arrived from Bournemouth on loan for the second half of the season.

Celtic are in the market for reinforcements in the final third, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that they’ve submitted an offer to sign Shamrock Rovers youngster Michael Noonan. The 17-year-old is in advanced talks to sign for Hoffenheim, but Celtic remain in the race for his signature.

Celtic Eyeing 6 ft 7 Defender for Martin O’Neill

According to journalist Galetti, reporting on X, Celtic are one of a number of sides who are eyeing WSG Tirol defender Lawrence. The towering defender, who stands at around six feet and seven inches, is out of contract in the summer, with Tirol open to offers for the German centre-back.

Sides from Spain, Turkey, Russia, China, and the English Championship are all said to be eying Lawrence, so it appears to be a competitive race to secure his signature.

Lawrence did spend some time with the Bayern Munich youth teams, before leaving to join Tirol on a permanent deal back in 2024. This season in the Austrian Bundesliga, Lawrence has played 17 times, scoring one goal.

Lawrence Could be Low-Risk Addition for Celtic

Martin O'Neill

If Celtic are able to fend off competition for Lawrence and secure his signature, he could be a low-risk option during the summer transfer window if available for nothing. Waiting until his deal expires could be difficult, with a host of clubs interested, as they might storm ahead in the race with an offer this month.

Lawrence is relatively unproven, with limited senior football under his belt, but there’s no doubt he has the physicality capable of playing at the level due to his height.
