Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager and Ineos have installed Michael Carrick as interim head coach until the end of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The 40-year-old Portuguese coach has now become the seventh permanent Red Devils head coach in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era to be axed from Old Trafford.

United have been linked with several candidates as potential long-term successors for Amorim, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti.

Carlo Ancelotti has become one name that has led to a twinkle in the eyes of Manchester United fans and the Italian’s resume speaks volumes about his pedigree.

The 66-year-old left Real Madrid at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and Ancelotti took charge of Brazil, with him securing World Cup qualification for the country.

Speaking on his podcast, Sam Allardyce believes that Ancelotti is the “most successful manager in the world” right now ahead of Spaniard Pep Guardiola.

“And that’s the difference [managing rather than coaching] between Carlo Ancelotti [and the rest],” he said on No Tippy Tappy Football.

“Carlo Ancelotti manages them. He doesn’t go around telling them how to play. He does, in the right way.

“But he manages, he manages their ego. If you’re stopping a training session against him, like the minute saying, well, you have to be certain about what you’re doing, because they’re going, why are you telling me about this?

“Like, I’m whoever I am, because they’re the big stars. So, anybody I’ve talked to, he’s probably more successful than Pep.

“Probably the most successful manager in the world at the minute, Carlo Ancelotti.”

What makes Carlo Ancelotti stand out for Sam Allardyce amid the Man Utd links with the Brazil boss

Despite Manchester United’s links with Carlo Ancelotti, the Red Devils would be unlikely to land the Brazil manager ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Allardyce believes that Ancelotti is a clear-cut example of a football manager rather than one of the up-and-coming talents who are “obsessed” with coaching as well.

Does Michael Carrick REALLY have traits like Carlo Ancelotti? Do you see it?!

“And he does, on the basis of man management, and less coaching, where we’re all obsessed with coaching and less management,” he continued.

“And if you go into a football club, you’ve got to assess what the size of the football club is, and what and who you’re dealing with.

“And so, whatever your ideas were at the previous club are fine, but you have to modify those ideas to suit to make that club successful.”

Brazil manager Ancelotti inked a deal with the five-time World Cup champions that runs until the end of the upcoming FIFA tournament this summer.
