WASHINGTON (KVOA) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is implementing new measures in the ongoing battle against the opioid crisis.

This week, the FDA announced significant changes to warning labels on prescription painkillers. Opioid medications will now feature stronger safety labels to better convey the risks associated with long-term use.

The revised labels will also eliminate language that might suggest indefinite use is acceptable.

Additionally, they will include new warnings about dose-related risks, withdrawal, and overdose-reversal drugs such as naloxone.

These changes aim to enhance patient safety and awareness concerning opioid prescriptions.
