Shudder’s latest fantasy horror has arrived, and the Rotten Tomatoes score has everyone talking as Mother of Flies premieres with a near-perfect score.
Mother of Flies follows a young woman as she’s suffering from a life-threatening illness and decides to seek help from a mystical healer deep in the woods, but the unconventional cure could have consequences. The movie is directed by Zelda Adams, Toby Poser, and John Adams, written by the husband, wife, and daughter, and they also star in Shudder’s latest flick, making it a real family affair.
Mother of Flies has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a near-perfect score of 95%. Reviews from critics include that the film is “stunningly beautiful” and “esoteric, artsy, and super weird.” The family behind the movie certainly proved their mettle in this new horror and has delivered one of the first horrors of the year with a score as strong as this.
The husband-and-wife duo have made a few films together before Mother of Flies, including titles such as Hell Hole, Hellbender, and Where the Devil Roams, all of which feature their daughter, Zelda Adams, as a director/writer. Known for their Indie-style films and preference for the horror genre, Mother of Flies could put the family filmmaking team on the map for even bigger blockbusters.
Mother of Flies isn’t the only horror movie coming out this year. Fans of the horror genre have already had a chance to see We Bury The Dead, Primate, and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Mother of Flies is the ninth horror feature from the Adams family (no pun intended), and it is the first American film to win the top Cheval Noir award at the 29th Fantasia International Film Festival. Shudder acquired the film for North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, and it was praised for the themes of witchcraft, illness, and Poser’s performance as Solveig was praised as a career best so far.
