Back in November 2025, a two-month-old Samsung Galaxy S25+ caught fire while charging. This newly purchased flagship phone basically exploded out of nowhere, causing harm to the owners and their home. And now, Samsung has finally admitted liability and offered compensation. But many users have criticized the size and terms of the compensation.

Samsung finally concludes Galaxy S25+ exploding investigation

A Galaxy S25+ owner experienced a frightening incident when their phone exploded and caught fire overnight while charging with an official Samsung charger and cable. Local reports stated the device underwent a thermal runaway event, which is basically an uncontrolled battery failure where heat rapidly escalates inside the lithium ion cell. This also caused visible flames and damage to the nearby carpet.

The family residing in the home inhaled smoke from the event and sought medical attention, with several members reporting respiratory symptoms. Fire department documentation reportedly backed up the thermal runaway conclusion after examining the charred remains of the handset. After about two months of investigation and back-and-forth with the affected owners, Samsung has acknowledged liability for the incident.

The company’s Fire and Marine Insurance unit is said to be offering to cover the cost of the damaged Galaxy S25+ device, pay for cleanup and restoration expenses, and reimburse medical bills related to the incident. Additionally, Samsung reportedly offered a $500 “pain and suffering” payment per person for those affected by the event. However, many online argue that these steps from Samsung are insufficient, given the trauma and potential long-term health risks associated with exposure to toxic lithium-ion battery fumes.

The incident has also brought light to other similar reports of the Galaxy S25 series overheating and catching fire. So it raises broader concerns over battery safety even for premium flagship devices. Samsung has traditionally emphasized rigorous battery testing and safety protocols to prevent overheating and fire risks in its products. Samsung hasn’t issued a wide public statement beyond its engagement with the affected customer in this specific case, and at this time, there’s no evidence that the issue reflects a broader systemic flaw in the S25 lineup.
