Former world No.1 Garbine Muguruza has announced the birth of her first son with husband Arthur Borges on social media. The pair took to Instagram to celebrate the first week of being parents together.

The two-time Grand Slam champion posted a shared image of their one-week-old son – named Marcos Borges Muguruza. Alongside an image of his feet and one hand, they wrote: “Our little mircale. Marcos Borges Muguruza celebrates one week since his arrival.”

Muguruza met her husband in 2021 after the pair bumped into each other in Cnetral Park around the time of the 2021 US Open. They got engaged in 2023, before tying the knot in October 2024.

“My hotel was close to Central Park and I was bored, so I thought I should go for a walk,” Muguruza previously recounted. “I go out and I run into him on the street. Suddenly, he turns and says; ‘Good luck at the US Open’. I was left thinking; ‘Wow, he’s so handsome’.”

After spending two years together, Borges proposed to the former Wimbledon champion, who retired in 2024, in Marbella, Spain. “It felt weird. I was thinking something else and then when he proposed I started crying,” she said.

“I didn’t know how to react. I said yes in the midst of tears, it was very romantic.”

After the pair became husband and wife, Muguruza shared images of her special day with Spanish publication HOLA!. “It’s a total movie,” she said.

“I knew I would marry him even before he asked me. When we met, it was love at first sight and we realised very quickly that we were an ideal couple.”
