Manchester United’s scouting department found Senne Lammens in the Belgian league last summer, and now another talent is being looked at.

Despite arriving under the radar and not as an immediate starter, Senne Lammens‘ performances have been sublime all season long.

From the goalkeeping department at Manchester United being the most discussed position, now we rarely hear anything, which is a testament to the Belgian.

Phil Jones has heaped praise on Lammens recently for his role in the revival of the campaign, despite just keeping three clean sheets.

Additionally, David May has labelled Lammens ‘different class’. So from Ineos’ point of view, given the unanimous success of this deal, going shopping in the Belgian Pro League again looks like a good call.

Is Senne Lammens actually Manchester United’s best signing of the season?

Manchester United scouts watching Aleksander Stankovic

Lammens was undoubtedly the standout goalkeeper in Belgium when United signed him, and in terms of midfielders, Aleksander Stankovic is the clear top dog.

Currently at Club Brugge, Stankovic was man of the match as Brugge knocked out Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille, which is sure to have caught the attention of Europe’s elite.

Now, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto has claimed that United scouts are watching the youngster.

“Many English clubs have gone to watch him and scout him live – Tottenham, Manchester United, lots of teams.

“But Inter are continuing to follow Stankovic’s development, and they’re staying very calm. Why? Because they have the option to bring him back home either in summer 2026 (July 2026) by paying €23 million, or in July 2027 by paying €25 million.

“So basically, in the end, it’s all in Inter’s hands.”

It may seem in Inter’s hands right now, but if United match or even better the offer, then Stankovic will have a decision to make.

The 20-year-old was sold by Inter just last summer and so he might not be in a hurry to return with the Premier League calling.

Manchester United should be aiming higher than Stankovic

Stankovic is clearly a solid midfielder and very good at what he does, but if United are looking to sign a cheaper, high-potential, wonderkid option in midfield, along with the likes of Elliot Anderson, there are better options.

United have been linked with a move to sign Christos Mouzakitis, with the Olympiacos midfielder arguably the most exciting in Europe right now.

Mouzakitis also brings the promise of an attractive footballing brand, given he is exceptional on the ball.

Another more exciting option would be Ayyoub Bouaddi, with United keen on the Lille star who promises to be a world class midfielder.

So Stankovic is exciting, but United can and should do better.
