Cambrian Line near Welshpool
A person has died on a Welsh railway line. British Transport Police (BTP) were called alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service to the Cambrian Line near Welshpool at around 10.45am today to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their death is not being treated a suspicious.
A spokesperson for BTP said: “Officers were called at around 10.45am today (January 30) to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Welshpool area.
“Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The incident led to the closure of the line between Welshpool and Shrewsbury in both directions between 11am and 1.30pm on Friday while emergency services attended the scene.
A spokesperson for Transport for Wales said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth services will be delayed by up to 20 minutes.
“We encourage all passengers to continue to check for the latest information before travelling.
