Alfie Chang has left Birmingham City to re-sign for League Two promotion hopefuls Walsall on a permanent basis.

Chang spent the first half of the season on loan at fourth tier Bristol Rovers, where he played 19 games across all competitions, before returning to Blues at the beginning of January.

The midfielder has bided his time before making his next move and always preferred a return to the Saddlers after his loan spell at the end of last season.

Chang rebooted his career at Walsall with eight appearances on loan, including an appearance in the League Two play-off final at Wembley, after spending 17 months out with a knee injury.

The midfielder is one of the success stories of Blues’ academy in recent years having graduated from the same age-group as Jude Bellingham to make 13 appearances in the Championship, plus another eight in other competitions.

Chang will join a Walsall side gunning for promotion again under former Blues defender Mat Sadler. The Saddlers are currently sixth, two points outside the automatic promotion places.

Chang is the 10th player to leave Blues during the January transfer window.
