Seamus Power’s challenge at the Farmers Insurance Open faded on Saturday after the Waterford man carded a third-round 74 that saw him drop back to tied sixth, 10 shots off leader Justin Rose.
Power started with a seven-under-par 65 on the South Course in his opening round and followed that up with a 66 that moved him to 13-under, four behind pace-setter Rose.
However he could not sustain that form on a frustrating day at the office.
Power picked up five bogeys in total (three on the bounce from the 14th to 16th holes) to get home in a two-over 74 that left him 11-under for the tournament.
Rose shot a four-under 68 to streak away from the chasing pack. The Englishman is 21-under-par, six clear of second-placed American Joel Dahmen, with Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and Si-Woo Kim of South Korea a further two back on 13-under.
