An injured teenager has been taken to hospital following a 20 metre fall in Dovedale.

Members of Derby Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT) were called out to the 19-year-old just before 2pm on Saturday, January 31.

The team worked with East Midlands Ambulance Service and EMAS hazardous area response team (HART) to treat and transfer the casualty to DLRAA Helimed 54.

He was then flown to Stoke trauma unit for further assessment. His condition is not currently known.

As the callout was concluding, the members of DMRT were asked to respond to reports of a missing walker.

A DMRT statement said: “While the team was responding to a trauma incident at Dovedale, concerns were raised regarding a potential missing person.

“A member of the public reported that her sister had not returned after being last seen earlier on Thorpe Cloud as part of a coach trip. Following completion of the initial incident, the team was re-tasked to make inquiries and check the surrounding area.

“Contact was attempted by text message and voicemail, and team members checked likely locations. The missing person was later contacted and confirmed to be safe and with other members of the group in Ilam. Advice was given to allow the group to be reunited.”

The rescue team is located in Derby and is currently creating a base just off the A52 in Mackworth Village.

From the Peak District to the cityscape of Derby, the team is trained to handle any situation. Whether it’s a missing person in rural areas, a crag rescue, a swift water emergency, or pre-hospital medical care, they are ready to jump into action. Their expertise has even taken them as far as Wales and Scotland to help with natural disasters and air accidents.

With an annual expense of over £35,000, the team relies on the generosity of the public and local businesses.
