Remco Evenepoel has said it is his “dream” to win the Tour de France and that he will do “everything to achieve it”.The 26-year-old Belgian said he had got “off to a good start” with his new Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe team, in what has been “a great start to this new chapter” of his career.

Evenepoel won three races in Mallorca to kickstart the 2026 season in style, including two individual races and a team time trial.

Speaking to Eurosport France, Evenepoel discussed his upcoming goals, one being the Tour de France, which he is desperate to win and will do “everything to achieve it”.

“When I was little, the only races I watched were [Tour of] Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, and the Tour de France,” he said. “It was one of the only races I knew.

“I won the Vuelta a Espana, and I was in a good position to win the Giro d’Italia. There are signs that it’s possible to win the Tour one day.

“It’s my dream, I will do everything to achieve it, to win it. I’ll make many sacrifices.”

Evenepoel won La Vuelta in 2022, while his best finish at the Tour de France is third, which came in 2024.

He did not finish the race last year, having dropped out following a disappointing performance on Stage 13, before Tadej Pogacar went on to claim the Tour de France crown.

Evenepoel also discussed his programme for the season, and added: “Let’s hope we can have a normal season and see how I react during an altitude-training camp, over 10 days of competition, etc.

“That’s why we’ve put together a basic programme. I’m happy; it’s still a good programme with some great races, lots of peaks.

“I’m doing the classic races for someone who’s riding the Tour, but races that you want to win. Every race I enter, I’ll be aiming to give my all.”

Evenepoel: I hope to ‘compete alongside’ Pogacar

Evenepoel has also set his sights on matching, and perhaps eclipsing, four-time Tour de France winner Pogacar.

The pair clashed at the World Championships last year, as Evenepoel claimed the time trial, while Pogacar pipped his Belgian rival in the road race.

“I learned a lot from that race,” Evenepoel revealed. “It was a race where I was really at my best, and we had a real battle on the climb where Tadej dropped me.

“For 20-30 seconds, I really had to recover from that initial effort. These are the things we work on, the things we want to improve.

“We do a lot of intense training. We look at his level from last year, where I think he was untouchable. We look at my own level and we want to reach the maximum of my abilities.

“I hope one day to be able to compete alongside him, and maybe even one day be at the front.”
