Harlequins have announced the signing of three Welsh rugby talents on short-term loan deals after the English side moved to secure cover ahead of their upcoming PREM Rugby Cup matches.

Dragons duo Luke Yendle and Barny Langton-Cryer have both arrived at The Stoop ahead of Quins’ block of four games in the competition, with Ben Murphy of Super Rygbi Cymru side Cardiff RFC joining them across the border. The club announced the signings on Tuesday, with Connacht back-rower Oisin McCormack also being brought in on loan.

Tighthead Yendle has made 22 appearances for the Dragons since making his debut for the region in 2020, while he has also represented Newport and Pontypool in Super Rygbi Cymru and Jersey Reds in the English second-tier.

Having also previously played for Wales U18s and U19s, the 25-year-old has now made the short-term move to Quins alongside Dragons team-mate Langton-Cryer.

The lock, who is also 25, has made 16 senior appearances for the Dragons, as well as representing Newport.

Murphy, meanwhile, has also been parachuted in to boost the Harlequins squad, with the loosehead swapping Super Rygbi Cymru for the PREM Rugby Cup, a tournament in which he previously represented Worcester Warriors.

The 23-year-old loosehead came through the Worcester academy and captained Cardiff Met University in BUCS Super Rugby before signing with Cardiff last summer.

The four new arrivals will provide important depth for Quins coach Jason Gilmore over the next few weeks, with his side taking on Saracens, Northampton, Leicester and Newcastle before the end of February.

As the deals were announced on Tuesday, the senior coach said he had lost “a large number” of players to international duty, with the return to play schedule of “several” other senior players still being managed.

“With a large number of our squad away with their respective national teams and while we manage the return to play schedule of a several senior players, it’s important we have depth throughout our squad for the upcoming PREM Cup block,” he said.

“The players we have coming in have a great opportunity to contribute to our environment and gain exposure to different competitions and opposition.

“They’re excited to get stuck in and we’re looking forward to seeing how they contribute to the Quins jersey over the next few weeks.”
