Junior Adamu insists he’ll be laughing if he ends the season with a Premiership medal in one hand and a ticket to America in the other.
But, then again, Celtic’s new striker might be grinning no matter what happens. The on-loan Freiburg frontman insisted he’s a smiling assassin on the pitch but he’s deadly serious when it comes to firing the Hoops to the title and bagging a place in the Austria World Cup squad.
The 24-year-old checked in on deadline day on an initial move until the summer with a view to a permanent deal. And he’s out to lighten the mood at Parkhead.
Adamu said: “I’m a striker who is always laughing. On the pitch, I’m a guy who will run for the team, give 100 per cent, and work so that we achieve our goals.
“I am dangerous in the box, where I can score a lot of goals. When I’m outside the pitch, I always laugh, because laughing gives me a good feeling and positive vibes. Positive is my middle name!
“I knew before that Celtic play in the Champions League, and they’ve won the Champions League. For now, I’m here, and we will see in the summer what happens [with a permanent move]. I want to give my best, and we will see what happens.
“I wanted to have more minutes to play for the World Cup because that’s my goal to reach that. I decided to go on loan, and I decided on this club, and I’m really happy to be here.
“I spoke with the manager from the national team [Ralf Rangnick] before joining Celtic. He wanted to see me play. There were other clubs, he said the other clubs were good, but that I should decide and have a good feeling.
“I had to speak with the Celtic manager, and then I decided to go to Celtic.”
And Adamu insisted he’s ready to battle it out with Tomas Cvnacara and Kelechi Iheanacho to be Celtic’s main man up top.
He said: “It feels good to wear the No.9. There are good strikers here. Now it’s my turn to show what I can do and help the team.”
