Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne has given the most definitive answer yet if the Netflix hit will return for a second season.

Speaking to Alex Jones and Lauren Laverne on The One Show tonight, Thorne confirmed: “There’s not going to be a second series that involves the Miller family.”

Thorne, who co-created the drama alongside star Stephen Graham, added: “So if we ever do anything else with the format, which we might do in years to come, but we’ve got nothing at the moment.

“Stephen said there might be something at the back of our brains somewhere, there isn’t anything.

“I’ve got this brain and I know Stephen’s brain and there is nothing there at the moment, but give us time and there might be something else.”

Thorne continued: “We would love to work together again, Adolescence is the sixth thing I have done with Stephen and I hope it won’t be the last with him.

“We love the one shot format, so if we were going to do something else using the one-shot format, that might be a sort of… at the moment, there’s nothing.”

At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards last month, Adolescence took home four awards, including the Best Limited series award and a Best Male Actor in a Limited Series for Graham.

Speaking after his win, Graham was asked about the possibility of more Adolescence, telling Deadline: “I cannot answer that question.”

“It’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned.”

Meanwhile, Graham will next be seen in dark thriller The Good Boy (known as Heel in the US). The film’s first trailer hit last month ahead of its 20 March release in UK and Irish cinemas.

The Good Boy sees Graham as Chris, a man who abducts 19-year-old hooligan Tommy (Anson Boon) and chains him up in his basement.

Chris and wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough) intend to reform Tommy and make him understand the error of his ways, leaving him with no choice but to comply with their mind games and attempt escape at any cost.

Adolescence is streaming now on Netflix.
