Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle cracks under the pressure next week, as the combined strain of his prostate cancer diagnosis and his wife Moira’s imprisonment take their toll. Nervous about his upcoming treatment, Cain struggles to keep it together and insists on keeping his other half in the dark.

However, with Cain needing all the support he can get right now, is shutting Moira out the right thing to do?

“We all know Cain isn’t great when it comes to anything emotional,” our Emmerdale insider points out. “With Moira facing a double murder charge, Cain feels he has no choice but to deal with his cancer diagnosis alone.

“Only Sarah knows what her granddad is facing, but will her support be enough?”

In tonight’s episode, doctors confirm to Cain that he has aggressive, but localised, prostate cancer. The news is so overwhelming for Cain that he walks out of the consultation when it all becomes too much.

The news comes just as Moira is charged with the murders of Anya and Celia, whose bodies were dug up at Butler’s Farm.

Mounting evidence means Moira could be spending the rest of her life behind bars, so Cain can’t bring himself to add to her worries by telling her about his illness.

As a distraction from his medical woes, Cain is on a mission to prove Moira’s innocence. He squares up to Bear, knowing he was enslaved by Celia’s evil operation, and begs him to talk to the police hoping it helps Moira’s case. But Cain is oblivious to Bear’s own deadly secret over the killing of Ray.

Sarah is the one person Cain has reluctantly confided in, and she’s urging him to stop pushing Moira away. When Sarah tries to check in on Cain, her beloved ‘Grumpy’ makes it clear that he doesn’t want to put Moira through any more misery, but reluctantly allows his granddaughter to accompany him to his next appointment where he learns the next steps of his treatment.

“The consultant tells Cain he’ll need a radical prostatectomy, an operation to remove the prostate,” shares our source. “The thought of this clearly terrifies Cain, though he tries to maintain a brave face as he processes it.”

Insisting to Sarah that he’s okay, frustrated Cain later crumbles when he’s alone. Is he strong enough to tackle what lies ahead without Moira’s support?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
