Willie Peters has named a strong 21-man Hull KR squad for Friday’s Challenge Cup third-round tie against Lock Lane. The Robins begin a new competitive season and the start of their cup defence at Craven Park against the Castleford-based community club opponents, with a total of five new signings in contention to feature.
Peters, who promised he would select a strong team to go up against the National Conference League side, has named NRL recruit Karl Lawton in his squad. The versatile forward arrived for pre-season training at Rovers from Australian outfit North Queensland Cowboys and is joined by fellow new boys Jordan Dezaria, Jack Charles, Tom Whitehead, and Declan Murphy.
Elsewhere, Rovers skipper Elliot Minchella is named alongside the likes of Arthur Mourgue, Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, Tom Davies, and Oliver Gildart, who signed a new contract at the club last month. Young players Noah Booth, Louix Gorman, and Harvey Horne are also included.
There is no Mikey Lewis, Joe Burgess, or Jez Litten, with Peters telling Hull Live earlier in the week that Rovers’ England players wouldn’t feature. The same goes for Kiwi centre Peta Hiku, with Tom Amone still recovering from a broken hand picked up in pre-season. The prop is expected to be fit in time for the World Club Challenge game against Brisbane Broncos later this month.
