Almost 24 hours of wintry weather is forecast for parts of Greater Manchester later this week. Some parts of the region on higher ground woke up to a dusting of snow this morning (February 4).

A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice had been in force until 9am today, covering areas to the east of Greater Manchester. No other warnings have currently been issued for the region, but the latest Met Office maps suggest parts of Greater Manchester could see wintry weather for almost 24 hours starting late on Thursday morning.

Snow is currently forecast to the east of Rochdale and Oldham from 11.30am. Met Office maps show wintry conditions becoming more widespread by the afternoon, with heavy snow forecast in areas around the Pennines and Peak District.

By 2pm, wintry weather is forecast for a large area to the east and north of Greater Manchester, persisting into the evening. While snow could be thickest around the Pennines and Peak District, other areas could see sleet, with spells of rain expected for much of the region throughout the day.

Met Office maps currently show similar wintry conditions persisting in the east of Greater Manchester throughout Thursday night and continuing into the early hours of Friday morning. Rain is expected to become more widespread across the region on Friday morning, with snow hitting a smaller area on higher ground.

Some wintry weather is forecast to the east of the region until around 9am. Light rain is expected to continue across Greater Manchester throughout Friday, before a mostly dry, but overcast weekend.

Highs of 8C are forecast in Greater Manchester today, with a top temperature of 5C on Thursday and 7C on Friday, but the Met Office says the ‘feels like’ temperature will be cooler across the region – feeling below zero in some areas. Lows of 3C are expected tonight, dropping to 1C on Thursday night.
