A former Hull FC forward has signed a new deal with his current club who are knocking on the door for Super League promotion.
It’s been just over one year since Joe Cator left Hull FC, securing an early release from the club to take up an opportunity with Toulouse Olympique in the Championship.
Going off contract at the end of the 2024 season anyway, Cator left early in a bid to impress on trial with Toulouse and secure a deal for the 2025 season.
He had missed plenty of time injured after twice rupturing his Achilles and that meant he had made just six appearances for the Black and Whites, with interim head coach at the time Simon Grix encouraging him to go and earn a full-time deal with the French outfit.
That’s something that Cator did, signing for the 2025 season, and that contract has now been extended until the end of the 2027 campaign with the Englishman’s impact in France being recognised and rewarded.
Released Hull FC forward Joe Cator secures future
Toulouse are vying for top spot in the Championship and they’ll fancy their chances to be among the 14 teams in Super League next year, be that through the initial 12 IMG gradings or the proposed application process.
Either way, Cator could be able to show his quality on a Super League stage having signed a new two-year deal with the Olympians.
A club statement confirmed: “Toulouse Olympique is pleased to announce the extension of Joe Cator’s contract for the next two years.
“Having first arrived at the club on trial last summer, the English forward quickly integrated into the Toulouse squad, which led to the confirmation of his place in the 2025 squad. From now on, he will be an Olympian for the next two seasons.
“The former Hull FC player encountered some difficulties before truly launching his Toulouse adventure: a shoulder injury in his first match forced him to be sidelined for the end of the 2024 season.
“After a period of recovery and a full preseason, his consistency returned, as did his impact in Sylvain Houles’ system. Indeed, he played every game until Halifax, bringing his hard-working spirit to the field.”
Head coach, Sylvain Houles said: “Joe is an example of resilience. He arrived last year and injured his shoulder, but he came back in great shape for the start of pre-season.
“He’s having a great season; he’s a very good defender who’s putting in a lot of effort. In attack, he’s adapted very well to the Toulouse game, particularly because he’s an intelligent player who understands the game very well. That’s why we’re delighted to keep Joe in Toulouse.”
Cator himself added: “The decision to stay for two more years was an easy one. My family and I are really settled in here and I can’t wait to see what this group can accomplish in the future!”
