Wales begin their Six Nations campaign by travelling to Allianz Stadium Twickenham to take on old foes England.

It promises to be a tough assignment for Steve Tandy’s men, who are aiming to improve on what was a disastrous campaign last time out.

Wales finished with the wooden spoon after losing all five of their outings in last year’s competition, and improving on that showing will likely be the main aim heading into this year’s tournament.

A Wales side hasn’t beaten England in their own backyard since 2015, and few will admittedly be giving Tandy’s men much of a chance in changing that record this weekend.

However, a good performance could help to define the tone for the rest of the Six Nations campaign.

What have the coaches said?

England head coach Steve Borthwick: “England versus Wales is always a special occasion in the rugby calendar. It’s a fierce rivalry with a long history, and one that brings a huge challenge every time we meet.

“We expect Wales to bring a kicking game, so we’ll need to be accurate in how we respond to that challenge. For us, our focus is on executing our game plan and maintaining discipline throughout the match.

“We’re excited to get the Championship underway at a packed-out Allianz Stadium. The support we receive at home is outstanding and always gives the players a huge lift.”

Wales head coach Steve Tandy: “Wales v England is always a special game with all the history behind the fixture. We know they’re playing some outstanding rugby and they’re in great form. But I know how much it means to our players playing for the nation and representing Wales.

“The way the squad trained this week has been great. I want to see us get out and really attack the game on Saturday and give the best account of ourselves. Opening the Six Nations at Twickenham is historic and it’s something we can’t wait to do.”
