A key step has been taken in the redevelopment of Nottingham’s Broad Marsh that could eventually pave the way for construction work to start.

Government housing agency Homes England bought the entire Broad Marsh site, including land currently occupied by NCP’s Maid Marian Way Car Park, in March 2025.

The purchase followed years of uncertainty for the Broad Marsh after the eponymous shopping centre closed in 2020 and half of that site has already been flattened to create the Green Heart green space.

Homes England’s work will include demolishing the rest of the shopping centre, as well as the NCP car park and the former People’s College site.

The ensuing development is set to create 1,000 new homes and 2,000 new jobs and work is expected to begin in 2028.

Key to the development beginning is selecting a development partner to lead the construction and Savills have now been appointed to assist Homes England in finding that company.

Suggesting the project will be split up, Savills says it will use its skills to secure a partnership deal “that allows a range of development parcels to be delivered in phases”.

Ben Glover, the head of development at Savills in Nottingham, said: “This is a fantastic instruction to win and one which the team is really excited to be assisting Homes England with.

“It clearly demonstrates the strength and depth we have in Nottingham which, combined with the experience of our nationwide mixed-use teams, provides clients with a market-leading service and access to a range of specialists to help achieve the best outcome for them.”
