Police remain at the scene where a teenager was fatally stabbed today as a murder investigation continues.

The 19 year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds in the car park of the Powerleague football complex in Bury, next to Bury College off Market Street, at around 9pm last night (Friday, August 1).

It has been described by police as a ‘targeted attack.’

The man later died of his injuries. His family are being supported with a murder investigation now underway.

Three 19 year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of his murder.

Two were arrested in Bury and Bolton on Saturday night, with the third being detained at Manchester Airport at 4:30am this morning (Sunday).

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in their last update that the men remained in custody for questioning.

Specialist forensic scenes of crime officers spent Saturday combing the car park for clues.

Another police scene was in place on Valley Mill Lane, where residents reported hearing screams, around half a mile away.

A forensic tent was put up on the cul-de-sac near to the Roch Valley Greenway. The scenes are understood to be linked.

And the police activity continued on Sunday. The car park remained taped off with a number of police cars and officers remaining at the scene.

Powerleague posted on social media earlier this morning saying they would be remaining closed.

GMP say officers say they will remain in the area for ‘the next few days’ as they ‘try to establish what happened in the lead-up to this awful incident.’

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said on Sunday afternoon: “Even though we have three people in custody this is still a live investigation and that will continue today and into next week.

“This was a violent and tragic incident that was witnessed by a lot of people.

“This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat.

“Our officers will be in the area today and over the next few days as we try to establish what happened in the lead-up to this awful incident.

“We also have specialist officers supporting the family at this difficult time.
