Traffic chaos is expected in Bath this weekend with both a sold-out home rugby match and sold-out Mumford & Sons concerts on the same day.
The events are due to take place on Valentine’s Day this Saturday and roads in the city are expected to be rammed as visitors flock to The Rec and The Forum.
The Forum, which is holding three Mumford & Sons gigs on February 14, has issued a warning on its social media pages, urging people to plan ahead and allow extra time to travel around what will likely be a jam-packed city centre.
Kick-off between Bath Rugby and Bristol Bears is set for 2.30pm, but spectators are welcome to arrive from 12.30pm to enjoy a family-friendly fan village. The first of the three Mumford & Sons shows will start at 1pm, with a 1.45pm end time.
Once the match has ended, doors open for the second gig at 5.30pm, giving rugby fans an hour or so before another influx of music lovers arrive. A third session with the folk band is then due to begin at 9pm, with doors opening at 8.15pm.
Sharing a warning on Facebook, The Forum said: “Due to the busy nature of these shows, and a sold-out at-home Bath Rugby fixture, Bath will be very busy during this time.
“Please plan your travel accordingly. We strongly recommend leaving yourself extra time before shows.
“The Forum and our ticketing partners are not responsible for any delays and will not be able to refund your ticket or transfer it to other shows in the event of late arrival.”
The venue has asked concert-goers not to queue in advance outside The Forum, adding that doors will open 45-60 minutes before the shows.
Trains are likely to be busy as well as roads and car parks, as both venues are within easy walking distance of Bath Spa station.
With many fans expected to arrive from Bristol, particularly for the Bears game, the M4 is also likely to be busy as well as local buses linking the two cities, which usually go via Keynsham.
