Agnatius Paasi still faces an uncertain future with the 2026 Super League season about to get underway, All Out Rugby League understands.

The 34-year-old signed a one-year extension last November for the upcoming campaign, which is set to mark his sixth season in England following his move ahead of the 2021 season from the NRL.

It is understood that Paasi has previously held talks with a number of Championship clubs regarding a move for 2026, as he looks to secure more minutes on the field.

Widnes Vikings were previously linked with the overseas prop, but that move broke down and a switch to the DCBL Stadium appears unlikely at this stage. Meanwhile, it is believed that Oldham have made an approach over a possible move.

Paasi made 27 appearances last year under former head coach Paul Wellens, although his minutes were limited from the interchange bench throughout the campaign. He started in the front-row on two occasions – in Rounds 10 and 27 against Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers, respectively.

He has not been named in Paul Rowley’s 21-player squad for St Helens’ Super League opener against Warrington Wolves, despite the club recently losing captain Matty Lees to a long-term knee injury. The England prop is expected to be sidelined until Round 10 after sustaining the blow in the recent third-round Challenge Cup victory over Workington Town.

Paasi however did feature in the club’s pre-season fixture with Castleford Tigers, which also celebrated Lees’ testimonial match.

Noah Stephens has also missed out on this week’s extended squad due to injury, alongside fellow absentees Curtis Sironen and Mark Percival. Jake Wingfield has also not been included in Rowley’s extended squad, while David Klemmer and Jacob Host could make their Super League debuts at the Halliwell Jones Stadium following their off-season moves from Australia.
