The 24-year-old January signing made his debut in the midweek 3-0 Championship win at Oxford, and could be in line for FA Cup duty on Saturday against West Brom.
Maghoma was a highly-rated attacking midfielder at Premier League Brentford, but a Carrow Road link up with Clement offers a chance to put a spell sidelined with hamstring injuries behind him.
“I believe it’s a really good player for the future of the club, and a talented player. But he’s showing also the right mentality at the moment,” said Clement. “I was pleased about his game (at Oxford). You see that Paris is somebody really comfortable on the ball. There were some moments that I thought he could make better decisions, and I mean more forward positions where he moved on the pitch, and how he played balls.
“I had an individual meeting with him this week, like with other players also, and like my staff is doing with other players, about those details, and he understood directly, and it’s building up the study with him. I’m really pleased how he’s performing in the training sessions and how he came on.”
Maghoma faces stiff competition in that battle to be Clement’s first choice number 10.
“I think they’re all totally different,” said the City chief. “Emi (Marcondes) played there. Kvist (Mathias Kvistgaarden) has played there. Anis (Ben Slimane) plays there. Oscar (Schwartau) played there. Paris can play there. Jacob Wright can play there.
“So that’s six, I think in total, it’s maybe not their best position for some, and they have other positions in the team where they can be better. But it shows already the circumstances that we had the last three months, that we had to put six different players in those positions.
“For Paris his best position is there for me, but he can play also six or eight, what he did in the past with Brentford, even at Premier League level. But he can play also on the wings, if it’s necessary. It’s good to have this availability and the quality is also to play different positions that will help the team.”
Maghoma was joined at City by deadline loan signing Sam Field, who is eligible for the Baggies’ FA Cup visit under new competition rules this season, despite featuring for QPR in the third round.
“Yes, he is. We first thought he was not, but apparently he is,” said Clement. “We had also, and because of that, we found out also, in the cup game against Walsall a player who had played before for another team in the cup.
“So because of that, we knew, and also the people who check everything in the club confirmed it, that Sam is ready to be in the squad.”
