John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship.
WWE
WWE SummerSlam 2025 Night 2 emanates from MetLife Stadium with almost 55,000 tickets sold. Cody Rhodes will challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship in a rematch of their WrestleMania 41 main event. John Cena shockingly turned babyface out of nowhere this past Friday on SmackDown, but much like Seth Rollins’ knee injury, fans are dubious.
WWE SummerSlam Night 2 offers up a strong follow-up to Night 1 after a wild ending where Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract after faking a knee injury at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. CM Punk dethroned Gunther in an instant classic of a war during a 30-minute main event, only to be dethroned himself by Rollins. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship has changed hands three times since June 9, 2025. Last night was not without its flaws, however.
Sami Zayn’s win over Karrion Kross was forgettable to say the least. Kross has an edgy online gimmick going, but unlike Ricochet it has translated to real-life popularity. If MetLife Stadium is chanting your name, you’re doing something right. Unfortunately, Kross’ matches have left a lot to be desired. In his biggest WWE match to date, Kross underdelivered amid a promising stipulation.
WWE SummerSlam Night 1 Highlights
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso got revenge over Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed after Reigns sacrificed himself for Jey Uso. Reigns took a Spear in place of Jey, leading to a wild Jey comeback and win.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles after overcoming a miscue. The pair went from frenemies to friends. Next stop? BFF’s.
Tiffany Stratton retained the WWE Women’s Championship over Jade Cargill in a short, but flashy match.
Jelly Roll shined in his in-ring debut, taking an insane Frog Splash through a table form Logan Paul. He ultimately came up short by taking the pin, but the celebrity tag team match stole the show. Randy Orton made history with his 17th SummerSlam match.
CM Punk won his first world championship in 14 years, only for Seth Rollins to return on crutches with his Money in the Bank briefcase in tow. In a surprise to anybody who doesn’t spend all their free time tweeting, Rollins shed his crutches and cashed in on his bitter rival CM Punk. In addition to the Money in the Bank briefcase and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Seth Rollins was also awarded the unofficial title of WWE’s Biggest Hater.

WWE SummerSlam 2025 Live Results And Highlights
WWE SummerSlam Night 2 is headlined by John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes in a Street Fight for the WWE Championship. WWE added a wrinkle to this match after a surprise babyface turn from John Cena, leaving the finish even more in doubt. The odds are very close, and for the second night in a row, the main event is setting up for a wild finish.
Potential show-stealing matches include the crowded Tag Team TLC match, which basically features the entire SmackDown tag team roster. Lyra Valkyria will attempt to regain her WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship—possibly with a Heel Bayley waiting in the wings. Jacob Fatu looks to regain his US Title against Solo Sikoa inside of a Steel Cage, and Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky and Naomi will try to top last month’s masterpiece between Rhea and Iyo. This was considered by many to be the greatest WWE women’s match of all time, and Naomi crashed the ending with a Money in the Bank cash-in.
Naomi Def. Rhea Ripley And Iyo Sky
Michael Cole noted Rhea Ripley has never won at SummerSlam in addition to never having defeated Iyo Sky.
Naomi received an awesome live musical entrance fitting of a champion and featuring her father on the electric guitar. How do you boo this woman?
Iyo Sky is 8-1 in Triple Threat matches. Naomi has also never won at SummerSlam.
Rhea and Iyo started the match in a temporary alliance against Heel Naomi. The alliance imploded in seconds after Ripley accidentally clocked Iyo twice.
Naomi dominated early, doing whatever she wanted to both women. Wade Barrett was loving it.
Iyo Sky launched into a comeback with assistance from Rhea Ripley as their alliance got back on track. Once Naomi was disposed of, Rhea and Iyo engaged in one-on-one combat.
After Naomi broke up an early pin attempt, fans chanted “this is awesome!”
Sky returned to the fray with a perfect moonsault on her opponents. Iyo Sky hit a second moonsault while Naomi pinned Ripley, but she accidentally landed on Rhea—shades of Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 41.
Iyo Sky hit a brutal sunset flip power bomb to the outside, slamming Rhea on Naomi. Back inside the ring, Rhea Ripley recovered and and hit a second-rope Riptide on Iyo. Naomi came in and vultured the win with a rollup while holding the tights.
Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky Grade: B+
The Wyatt Sicks Win The 25th Anniversary TLC Match
The Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz were ringside for the 25th anniversary of the first WWE TLC Match at SummerSlam in 2000. Edge and Christian were contractually unavailable.
Every tag team received an entrance. It felt like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Wade Barrett brought up the tag team division being shoot upset about left off the WrestleMania 41 card. This was their reprieve.
Bodies went flying every which way 30 seconds into the match as the cameras worked their butts off to keep up. The Street Profits stacked two tables on the outside. This is going to get insane, real fast.
Rey Fenix impressively climbed up Andrade’s shoulders to snatch the titles but barely missed. It was an awesome spot. #DIY swung chairs at anything that moved. They tried tossing Montez Ford to the outside, but he dived onto two tag teams.
The first table spot came when Johnny Gargano and Joe Gacy went crashing through the table. Not to be outdone, Dexter Lumis launched his entire body like a cannonball through Montez Ford. Not to be outdone, Rey Fenix hit a Frog Splash on Nate Frazer. Not to be outdone, Axiom hit a Spanish Fly on Angelo Dawkins through two tables. MetLife went crazy. I’m melting.
Candice LeRae came down to ringside to check on her husband Johnny Gargano. B-Fab and Nikki Cross evened the odds. Cross hit a back suplex off the ladder on B-Fab. LeRae climbed the ladder as Johnny held the ladder for his wife. Gargano accidentally shoved LeRae off the ladder and she violently landed through a ladder. The referees immediately rushed to check on her. Johnny Gargano brushed off his high-spot miscue and went for the titles to no avail.
The Street Profits bludgeoned Erick Rowan with steel chairs. Rowan rose back on his feet like a monster, only to be driven through a table by the Profits.
Ciampa tried grabbing the belts, but found himself hanging on for dear life. Frazer tried a spear but Ciampa used his core strength to raise himself up and dive Frazer.
This match featured Shelton Benjamin tributes, Jeff Hardy tributes and even Johnny Gargano paying homage to Adam Cole and Ricochet’s superkick spot back when Ricochet was relevant.
The Wyatts put two more tag teams through tables and zeroed in on Nathan Frazer. Andrade hit a sunset flip powerbomb on Frazer onto a ladder. Gacy grabbed the gold to a chorus of boos.
Tag Team TLC Grade: A+
Becky Lynch Def. Lyra Valkyria
Becky Lynch has a new theme song. It’s fairly generic, but not half-bad. If she’s going to commit to being a heel, her catchy original theme had to go.
The match began as a slugfest. The crowd was clearly fatigued after that insane TLC Match. That was the most difficult-to-follow match of the entire weekend.
Becky Lynch pulled out a kendo stick. Lyra saw Lynch’s kendo stick and raised her with a crowbar.
Back in the ring, Lynch unloaded on Lyra with a kendo stick. She then switched up her weaponry and used a steel chair. Valkyria began a comeback, but when she charged at Becky, the champion countered with a drop toehold.
In what Michael Cole called a massacre, Lynch whacked Valkyria with a red toolbox. Lynch pulled out a zip tie and whipped Valkyria with it. Becky zip tied Lyra’s hands and stomped the hell out of her. Lynch, WWE’s Duke Nukem, pulled out yet another weapon and beat Lyra with a wrench. This was an insanely one-sided match to this point to this point.
Wade Barrett suggested the referee step in and end this match as Becky Lynch hit a Bexploder. Becky then wrapped Lyra’s hands on the post and beat her with multiple kendo sticks. Fans were slowly getting into this match, but the violence was well executed.
Lyra kicked out time and again as Lynch tried to put her away. Valkyria desperately rummaged through the toolbox. Valkyria countered a Bexploder with an awkward belly-to-belly suplex. A hamstrung Lyra Valkyria made her comeback as fans clapped along. Lyra then landed a running step-up dropkick. Valkyria followed up with a no-hands moonsault.
Lyra bounced Becky Lynch’s face off the chairs. Valkyria removed the turnbuckle, allowing Lynch to recover and drive her shoulder-first into the ring post. There were dueling chants for Valkyria and Lynch, but moreso for Lyra.
Lyra blasted Lynch with a fire extinguisher. Lynch blindly swung the kendo stick, which Lyra intercepted. Lyra repeatedly swung on Lynch with the stick. She finally shed her zip ties and hit Lynch with a fisherman’s suplex. Valkyria hit a Nightwing on Lynch, and now the crowd was getting on board with light “this is awesome” chants.
After Valkyria ran into the exposed turnbuckle, Lynch hit a Manhandle Slam onto two chairs for a nearfall. Lynch followed up by bouncing Valkyria’s head off a steel chair on the outside, then ramming her into an announce table while Valkyria was trapped in the chair. Lynch then came crashing down with a spine-snapping stomp on the chair, crushing Lyra. Lynch, with crowbar in hand, attempted to strike Lyra. Bayley snatched the crowbar away.
Becky Lynch told Bayley to hit Lyra with the crowbar. Bayley didn’t take the bait. Bayley unloaded on Becky Lynch, throwing her into the barricade, but missing a running knee and flying into the crowd. As Lynch climbed onto a table to recover, Lyra came flying out of nowhere and put Lynch through a table.
Bayley reentered the fray and accidentally struck Lyra Valkyria, who walked into a Manhandle Slam as Becky Lynch won.

Solo Sikoa Def. Jacob Fatu
Solo Sikoa switched up his gear from shorts to a tribal skirt. It was an improvement. The match started with fans chanting “F-U Solo” and “Fatu.” Solo got heat early as he pummeled Fatu, who sold like crazy for Solo.
Michael Cole noted that the last time Solo Sikoa was pinned was a the Netflix debut in January. He has not been pinned in seven months.
Fans chanted “let’s go Jacob” as Jacob Fatu battled back. Fatu and Solo went back-and-forth, but Jacob got the better of the exchange to the delight of the crowd. Fatu exacted revenge by sending Sikoa into the cage time and again.
Solo Sikoa tried bouncing Fatu off the cage, but he no-sold it and continued his comeback. Fatu hit a running butt bump followed by two double-jump moonsaults. Sikoa kicked out, marking the first time anybody has ever kicked out of one Fatu moonsault let alone two.
The MFTs hit the ring. Fatu stood his ground. Jimmy Uso came to the rescue and held them off before being booted by Tala Tonga. Fatu demanded that the cage be locked, but he walked into a Samoan Spike for a nearfall.
As Sikoa and Fatu scaled the cage, the MFTs circled it like sharks. The MFTs then climbed the cage and Tala Tonga handcuffed Fatu to the cage. Solo Sikoa and Tonga Loa were in the ring. Fatu busted out of the handcuffs and prevented Solo from getting out of the cage. Sikoa again tried to escape but Fatu dragged him back in.
Tala Tonga slammed the steel door in Fatu’s face as Sikoa fell out of the cage. After the match, Fatu ran wild and hit a moonsault from the top of the steel cage. He landed violently on his left knee, but popped up immediately to celebrate.

Dominik Mysterio Def. AJ Styles
Dominik Mysterio entered with a mask, but had far less trouble pulling it off than he did at WrestleMania 41.
AJ Styles entered, with his son Avery, in a low rider. Styles wore Eddie Guerrero-influenced gear. Fans went back and forth chanting for AJ Styles and Dirty Dom. The “Dirty Dom” chants sounded much younger.
Dominik took control of the match with an Eddie Guerrero-like somersault into the ring. Mysterio received a very mixed response when he flexed on the top rope.
Dominik Mysterio dived out of the way of a Phenomenal Forearm and hit a Michinoku Driver. The dueling chants reached a fever pitch as Mysterio hit the Three Amigos suplexes. As Dirty Dom went for a third suplex, Styles countered with a Brainbuster.
With “Dirty Dom” chants filling MetLife Stadium, Styles went for a Frog Splash, but it was blocked by Mysterio, Mysterio went for a splash of his own, but Styles countered with a Calf Crusher.
Dirty Dom pulled an Eddie Guerrero by smacking the ring mat and tossing the chair to Styles. Styles out-Eddied Dominik, and wrapped the chair around his neck. The ref didn’t know what the hell happened, so the match continued.
Dom was limping around on his left leg as Styles rolled him into a Calf Crusher. Mysterio’s boot came loose, a la Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XX. Mysterio hit Styles in the face with the boot followed by a Frog Splash for the win.
Dominik Mysterio vs. AJ Styles Grade: B+
Brock Lesnar Returns As Cody Rhodes Def. John Cena
The main event was a fantastic street fight that made use of tables, steel steps and chairs. Rhodes and Cena repeatedly hit big moves on one another for nearfalls that made them both doubt themselves. The action spilled into the crowd as they battle dup and down MetLife Stadium.
Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena in a wild main event filled with plunder and street fighting. Though Cody leaned into his heel instincts to attack John Cena with a series of weapons, he did not turn heel. After Cody’s win, he shared a warm embrace with Cena in a passing-of-the-torch moment.
After Cody Rhodes gave Cena the ring, Brock Lesnar returned and hit an F5 on Cena. The crowd went wild for Brock who figures to feud with a babyface John Cena in the future. One of the bigger stories coming out of this pay-per-view is that WWE has retconned Cena’s heel turn, thereby admitting it was a mistake.
