And it promises to keep the village’s maritime story afloat while offering a new all-weather family attraction, alongside tasty food and drink.

The couple decided to boost their business after setting up their successful Silver’s Shack food stall in Kilgetty, specialising in breakfasts, burgers, dirty fries and filled jacket potatoes.
“We were looking to expand, and were thinking about one of the huts on Saundersfoot Harbour, but then we were told about the schooner, whose café was empty,” said Justin, 49.
“My motto is ‘no risk, no story’, and so after we started doing food here, I came up with the idea of the indoor golf in the schooner’s exhibition space – and with a maritime theme, of course.
“It’s something fun for families to do and the only indoor crazy golf in Pembrokeshire.
“And we won’t be ripping people off – it’s £6.50 for a round of golf, and for £12.50, children can play and have a drink with sausage and chips or chicken nuggets and chips afterwards, so it’s great for kids’ parties.”

The three-masted replica schooner, named Free Spirit, is situated on the Saundersfoot harbour decking and last year was the centre of a rejected planning application by another person to house a gin bar.
But planners were all on board when Justin came along with the mini-golf idea.

And last Saturday, after speedy work by former bathroom fitter Justin and his carpenter pals, Laurence Marsh and Jason Bridges Captain Silver’s mini-golf opened in time for half term,
It will be open all this week between 11am and 7pm, then on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Easter, and then seven days a week for the summer season.

Created around the schooner’s maritime heritage interpretation panels, each crazy golf hole has a marine theme – with challenges including the Drunken Sailor, the Jolly Roger, High Seas and Buried Treasure.

There was a party atmosphere on the decking at the attraction’s opening day on Saturday, with RNLI mascot Stormy Stan and Samba Doc joining in the fun.
“I’m really proud of this,” said Justin. “I feel we’ve donean amazing job and it’s a great indoor attraction for Saundersfoot.”
