Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors forward Tiaki Chan has joined up with Super League rivals Catalans Dragons on loan.

Chan will spend the next month with Catalans and could feature for the French club on Friday night as he steps straight into Joel Tomkins’ 21-man squad. It’s a move that comes as he continues to struggle for game time at Wigan, who he joined from Catalans ahead of the 2024 Super League season.

He has made just two appearances for the Cherry and Whites in that time and doesn’t seem to be in Matt Peet’s plans at present as Wigan look to build a head of steam at the start of the Super League season.

Much of his game time over the last two seasons has come while out on loan, with Chan spending a chunk of the 2024 season with Hull FC before joining Salford Red Devils for the season last time around.

The 25-year-old made 16 outings for Catalans earlier in his career, having worked his way through the youth ranks at the club. And, he’ll be keen to add to that tally by pulling on a Dragons jersey once more on Friday as the club provide the opposition for Bradford Bulls’ first home match back in Super League.

Wigan Warriors’ transition Coach John Duffy said on the move: “This represents an excellent opportunity for Tiaki to secure meaningful game time in the Betfred Super League within a familiar and supportive environment.

“We are confident he will continue his development under Joel Tomkins’ guidance, and we look forward to seeing him embrace this opportunity and make a strong impact.”

Chan becomes the second player to leave Wigan on loan this week after seeing George Hirst join Castleford Tigers on a one-month deal on Monday.
