Mads Mikkelsen is set to join Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming feature What Happens at Night. Hailing from Apple Original Films and made in partnership with Studiocanal, the dream-like story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. Patricia Clarkson is also on board.

Scorsese will direct and produce for Sikelia Productions. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron, the script is written by Patrick Marber.

Mikkelsen will play Brother Emmanuel.

The film marks the latest collaboration for Scorsese, DiCaprio and Apple Original Films following the 10-time Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon. Lawrence has collaborated with Apple Original Films on projects including Causeway and Bread & Roses, along with the upcoming murder mystery feature The Wives in which she is set to star and produce.

Mikkelsen is known for films such as Another Round (2020) which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature, The Hunt, Casino Royale, Doctor Strange and Riders of Justice, as well as his iconic role in the TV series Hannibal. Other recent projects include Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Promised Land, voicing Kiros in Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, and Dust Bunny.

Upcoming, he will be seen in the dark comedy The Last Viking and in the action thriller Sirius. He is repped by UTA and Art Management.
