The first female porter at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, who became “the face” of the facility, has passed away.

Trisha Corfield, who staffed the main reception desk at the hospital where she “personified the warmth that the city is known for”, died on Friday February 20 aged 60. The mum-of-two’s heartbroken niece Ellie Wilson said: “Her partner came home and found she had just peacefully passed away in her sleep. It’s so sudden. Everybody is in shock.”

Trisha, from Stockbridge Village, started at Liverpool Women’s Hospital in 2013, having previously been employed at a tanning salon. She made history as the hospital’s first female porter before securing her “dream job” on reception in 2023.

In a hospital video discussing her position, she said: “I was a porter for 10 years and then finally hung the boots up and became front of house. I’ve been on main reception since January (2023) and absolutely love it. I seem to get on with every person that walks through the door.”

In recognition of her dedicated service, the hospital put her forward to attend the Buckingham Palace Royal Garden Party following the coronation of King Charles III in September 2022, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A hospital spokesperson at the time said: “Trisha is the warm, welcoming, kind face you see when you enter Liverpool Women’s. She fronts our main reception desk and has done since January 2023. She instantly recognises the needs of women and responds accordingly. She personifies the warmth that Liverpool is known for.

“We wanted to celebrate Trisha’s personal progress at Liverpool Women’s by nominating her to attend the Buckingham Palace Royal Garden Party – having worked initially as a domestic, then as our first female porter, Trish went on to land her ‘dream job’ on Main Reception after 13 years.”

Recalling the occasion, Trisha said: “When I went down to London the whole experience was phenomenal, just amazing. I couldn’t pinpoint one favourite part because it was just all different, the band, the people, even your sandwiches.

“When King Charles came on the balcony they played ‘God Save The King’ and got me all goose-pimply. The guards, the beefeaters, it was just everything. So I couldn’t pinpoint one favourite thing.

“I thought I wouldn’t be able to mix but I met people there that loved me for being from Liverpool and they were from Somerset and places like that they were saying to me they’d love to come to Liverpool. I’m so grateful for being nominated because they gave me the most amazing experience ever.”

Trisha is survived by her devoted partner Sarsy, three brothers, her son, daughter and numerous grandchildren. Ellie remarked: “Trisha was very bubbly. She’d light up any room she walked into. She loved to dance and she loved her job. She absolutely loved her job.

“She did everything. She took care of people who had just passed away, babies, anything and everything, and that was the type of person she was in general. She would do anything for anyone. In 2023 she got a job in reception and that was her dream job. She always wanted to do front of house. She took so much care when people would come in, it was like she understood them.

“As soon as anybody she knew had a baby in the women’s hospital, she’d be right there making sure they were OK, just to give a familiar face. She was always someone you could talk to.

“She leaves her beloved partner and three brothers who are absolutely heartbroken. She really idolised her brothers and everybody knew that, especially since their mum passed away. She really became like their mum. A lot of people know her. She will have left a hole in so many hearts.”
