Prime Video has confirmed the release date of its highly anticipated series The House of the Spirits. The Spanish period drama focuses on three generations of women, living in a conservative South American country.

Based on Isabel Allende’s novel of the name, the “magnificent family saga” is filled with “memorable” and “eccentric” characters.

“Together, men and women, spirits, the forces of nature, and of history, converge in an unforgettable, wholly absorbing and brilliantly realised novel that is as richly entertaining as it is a masterpiece of modern literature,” reads the book synopsis.

The eight-part adaptation spans 50 years, as protagonists Clara, Blanca and Alba navigate life shaped by classism, political upheaval, and paranormal magic.

The House of the Spirits will premiere globally on Amazon’s streaming service from 29 April.

The House of the Spirits also stars Pablo Macaya and Nicolás Contreras as Pedro Tercero, as well as Fernanda Castillo, Ozark‘s Alfonso Herrera and Aline Küppenheim.

If you’re looking for something to watch in the meantime, Prime Video recently re-added Sam Mendes’ 1917 to its catalogue, after removing it last year.

The British war movie follows two soldiers on a mission to deliver a vital message calling off a planned attack. It stars Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay in the lead roles, opposite Andrew Scott, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong and Colin Firth.

The House of the Spirits will premiere globally on 29 April on Prime Video.
